Travel Dorks: Akila and Patrick, The Road Forks

road Travel Dorks: Akila and Patrick, The Road ForksAkila and Patrick, of The Road Forks, have made it their mission to eat their way around the world. These hungry dorks both quit their day jobs in September 2009, and ran off to eat in places like Africa and Cambodia. Live / eat vicariously through their exploits with their taste-bud stimulating site.

Their Asian travel posts especially rock, because they’re ballsy enough to get one foot into North Korea and the other in Thailand to stuff their faces. They took a Thai cooking class where they learned that “Thailand threatens to make us terribly chubby.” These kinds of admissions inspire us to get out there and sport some chubbies with them.

Chock full of easy-to-make exotic foods, their recipes tab makes Martha Stewart wish she knew how to strap on a backpack. Using inspiration from around the world, these nomadic chefs bring delicacies like beet and goat cheese to the everyman’s table. Akila and Patrick are anything but stuffy, as alongside directions for Carcio Firipieni, they present Steeler’s potato skins (which even a Packers fan couldn’t resist).

Taking it a step beyond food, Akila and Patrick demonstrate how “Cheetahs are Awesome” and give hands-on insight into their culinary-fueled, incredible journeys through their “day in the life of” posts. During their recent trip to Africa, the two set out to capture a hippo yawning. They failed. But got great photographs of all kinds of cool shit along the way.

When you’ve wiped the drool from your face and are full of motivating jealousy, be sure to check out their “Off the Road” tab, with some of the best pre-trip advice out there. Akila and Patrick are as Travel Dorky as they come, with some sweet potatoes (3 ways) on the side.
