Travel Dork: Mark Heers, Travel Wonders

Mark Heers is what you’d call a travel dork veteran, backpacking for 25 years, he has stepped foot on every continent and in 80 different countries. Mark says he’s a “keen photographer,” and while bragging is usually a turn-off, he’s actually an excellent photographer who, in addition to being a kickass writer, has shot most of the crazy shit you’ll see on his site, Travel-Wonders.
If you’re looking for waterfalls hidden in mountains or the lore, history and details of The Troll’s Way in Norway, Mark will take you there and stun you visually along the way. He dishes out visual orgasms like they’re candy with caverns in Slovenia or his coverage of the Northern Lights (among other crazy Norwegian things).
Mark isn’t just about breathtaking nature and awe-worthy destinations: He really hits home with his reoccurring feature “Drinks Around The World,” where every 1st of the month (payday?) he gives us a little something to think about drinking.
Travel-Wonders is not broken into tabs, so it becomes highly addictive. You can easily spend three hours clicking through the “other articles you might like” links, because chances are you’re going to like them all. Mark’s “Travel Photos of the Week,” are pretty much the most badass shots anywhere on the Web. He knows people love anomalies and keeps you clicking by digging up the most interesting things the world has to offer like the world’s largest wine barrel and largest advent wreath.
If you’re looking for the craziest, most off-beat places in the world, chances are Mark Heers has been there and taken a great picture of it for you. Uncover all the wonder and give this seasoned travel dork a visit.
