Some travel dorks are born with the nomadic instinct woven in their veins. Others discover the awesomeness of flight later and find themselves with a bug they can’t shake. 29-year-old Lillie, a self-described “6-foot-tall Boston native” and English teacher, has been suffused with the travel bug for years, spending every summer teaching or studying in Latin America before finally throwing it all in for the long haul. In August 2009, Lillie embarked on her nine-month-long, round-the-world adventure. Luckily, this travel dork scratches our spectating travel itch by throwing us a few straws to chew.
“Around the World L” is travel porn to the max, with descriptions that make our feet restless, mouths water and general innards start packing their backpacks. Aside from documenting her nine-month trip around the world, Lillie’s kept the site updated after her return with travel tales and lists that keep us riveted to the page for hours.
For Lillie, travel is about learning just as much as it is about playing. She devotes a whole section to cultural differences and history and important issues like race. Lillie’s experiences traveling, including a 3-month volunteer teaching stint in Ghana and her current career as an ESL teacher are shared on her site, with a kickass section featuring the life stories of her ESL students.
